UMVIM Trip to Guatemala

For more than 15 years, Calvary’s Mission Ministry Team and several volunteers have been making annual UMVIM trips to Guatemala. We partner with Dr. Hugo Gomez who is the CEO of Global CHE Enterprises. He and his staff along with many village volunteers use the community, health, and evangelism (CHE) program as the method of transformation for the indigenous people in the remote villages of Guatemala. This is a well proven three pronged approach to holistic human development.

In the coming year our mission team will be comprised of seven or more volunteers. We stay together at a hotel as close as possible to the Mayan Village where we work each day. We have stayed in Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango and Champerico as well as some other cities which are a short commute to the village where we will do the ministry work.

Our Church provides some of the funding along with some fundraising by the volunteers. Once we arrive at the village, we work along with the CHE volunteers four or five days to complete the projects that the villagers choose for themselves. In the past we have built a parsonage, replaced a church roof, built a road, and constructed a concrete water storage tank. We have even taught vacation bible school to as many as sixty children for two or three days. On some of the trips our team helps with medical and dental clinics to meet those needs of the village. While we work together, we pray and worship. At the end of the week we take a day of R & R before returning home.

There are three ways you could help us; first, you can join in our planning for the next trip and join the team as a volunteer. You just need a current passport, and if it is your first time to the region, a few inoculations and current booster shots may be required; secondly, you can sponsor someone else to go on your behalf by making donations to offset their costs. Just mark your contributions for “Guatemala” and deposit them with the Church office or place them in our weekly offering; finally, you can pray for our success in planning and recruiting volunteers to go on this exciting mission trip.
